Well, gave Navasota a try yesterday. The car was .15 slow from the last outing and I'm not sure why. I didn't change a thing and really the weather was about the same. A little cooler, but a little more humid I think. DA was close.
I made 3 test hits, 6.71, 6.71, 6.70, 103.x, 103.x, 104.x. Knowing how competitive the indexes were, I wasn't about to give up 2 tenths and run the 6.50 index, so I added 120 lbs to the trunk (yes I put some proper balast bar mounts in there now) and slow down to run 7.00.
Well, the sad thing is, with all that weight in the trunk, it sixty footed and 330 footed exactly the same!!! It was pulling 1.51 sixties with and without the weight. 330' was 4.34 to 4.35. I started peddling the car just past half track and kept about a car on my opponents in both rounds. I cut a .45 and .48 light on the two passes.

The payout was jackpot plus $100. I'm thinking it might be time to fresh up the transmission as I felt a little flaring on a couple shifts. I'm gonna try to squeeze it out through the november events and then take it down for the season for the freshen up. Probably time for some new tires too.

Either way, track wasn't too bad and the drive wasn't that bad either. Made it home in 1.5 hours exactly.

Carl,
You had 120 lbs. of ballast with you? That's traveling prepared!
Jon.

Correction, I had 2 25 lbs weights and 2 35 lbs weights. I bolted in an actual bar mount on the passenger side and a long piece of 7/16" all thread on the drivers side. Both of which are drilled through the back frame rails right near the bumper supports.

I brought those weights hoping for the best, ie running 6.40s and needing to add a little to slow down to 6.50.

What was the overall condition of the track? Where there any fast cars (5.30-5.80) out there that where able to hook up? They had a 1000 bounty for the fastest sub 5 second pass....did anyone break into the 4s?

Track was OK. I wasn't blowing the tires away and pulled a small wheelie on every pass.

There were some low six second cars and possibly a couple 5 second cars. A bike that went 4.94, then the Twins brought their T/A out and made two passes at part throttle. 1 pass was a launch, then a coast from half track on to a 4.95@125 mph. That wasn't enough for the bounty, so they came back and launched softer, but laid into it around half track and went 4.85@154 LOL. So it held them..

Is your Crew Chief gonna let you run there again this weekend?
