Trouble shifting

I took my Z to the track for the first time last night and was a little disappointed. I had every race except 1. It seemed that my car stayed in third too long. As soon as the car hit fourth I was back on my way. If any of you Lt1 owners or trany gurus has any suggestions I need them. (it didn't matter wheather or not I manually shifted or let the car shift itself.) I have the L60E tranny with 100k on it.:bawl:

What gears are you running to run out of 3rd gear before the 1/4?

probably stock. I just bought the car about a month ago

i think what shaggy is sayin is that you shouldnt have ta go past 3rd gear ta race in tha 1/4. as for it takin fer ever for your tranny to shift outta 3rd, i think it just seems that way. i was thinkin tha same thing about my mom's mustang when i first took it out to the track. but i found that i would get tha best times out of it when i just left it in drive and let tha tranny decide when it wants ta shift (thats one of tha kewl things about electronic tranny's..... they know what ta do and when to do it). =)

this is only my understanding of how all this works, just from me messin around with both my car and my moms.
