There is a mini-triathlon I want to do on August 9th. However, I do not have a bike to train/compete with.

Does anyone here have a decent bike they'd lend me for the next month. Of course, if I damage anything, I'll pay to fix/replace or just buy the whole thing from you.

I've wanted to do a triathlon since I was in my 20s and originally wanted to complete one before I hit 30 but it never happened. Now that I have a chance to do one before my kiddo is born, it's motivating me again.

Anyone have something they'd be willing to lend? I have a wagon so I should be able to fit it in the hatch if we can meet up.

A mountain bike would work if it has road tires but I'd prefer some sort of road bike. However, I don't have any special clip-on shoes or anything so it'd need to have pedals where I can use normal shoes, haha.

Let me know what ya have.

I have a Schwinn Traveler that we got back around 91/92. It has the quick change (click and change) gears on it and cable less (cables are hidden inside bars) hand brakes. It was a nice bike and I trained and rode the Katy Flatland on it back when I was in high school. It also has a digital RPM/Speedo gauge on it, but probably needs a battery. A bike shop can clean it up and do the maintenance stuff for you.

You can borrow it or buy it for $100. It needs to be cleaned up and maintained, possibly new tubes in the tires. Its been sitting many years.

LMK if ya want it or want to borrow it. Its at my parents house in Channelview.

Fred,

Contact Mike Bollman; he has a couple, and is an -avid- (read: reads a 100/month, for sport) rider; if he doesn't have one, he'll know whop does..

If you don't have his number, I'll PM you...

Thanks guys. I'd rather borrow from someone I know though, preferrably someone I've seen in the past year, lol. It's been over 10 years since I met Mike Bollman and it's been at least 6 since I talked to Eric, haha. It's would feel weird, "Hey man, we never talk or hang out... can I borrow your bike?" ;)

Well, as said, you can borrow mine, just need to do a little maintenance. I haven't ridden it in years. I got it out last year and put air in the tires and had someone interested in buying it, but it fell through.

It uses the skinny tires/tubes and I believe we even have the little hand held air pump that mounts between the frame. I also have at least 1 if not 2 water bottle brackets on it. It has the foot pedals with the little basket that goes around your toes, but no special clip on shoes or anything.

I think it only weighs 24 lbs as well. I can't remember if it is 12 or 18 speed.

I'd prefer to borrow something I don't have to have gone through before riding. Thanks though.

There's 1 month before the event and I'd like to get riding right away if I'm going to do this. :(

I've got a Specialized Allez you can use if you want. I'll need it back by late August though. I have a ride I'm doing then. I have been doing some trail rides for a change of pace. Let me know if you want to use it.
