Since we lost the other post, here's a new one. I picked up these AFR 225s from Alex Ekrot to put on my 427. Previous heads were ported Canfield 192s and the cam I am running was built around the canfields on a 408ci setup with 10.8:1 compression. New motor is 427ci with 11.3:1 compression.

I'm going to have about as close of a comparison between the performance of the two heads as I can for the swap. The only other thing changing with the engine is the headers. My supercomps had gotten damaged in the wreck, so I ran MAC 1 3/4 on the motor in the new coupe for its first outings. The car ran the same numbers with the 1 3/4 headers and mufflers as it did in the white car with the 2" headers and no mufflers and around 100 lbs lighter. The coupe is 3000 with mufflers, the white car was 2900 with no mufflers.

The best ET to date is 10.35@128 in the 1/4, but a faster 6.52@105.4 in the 1/8 in the coupe. The white car's best ET was 10.37@131 in the 1/4 and a better 6.49@105.8 in the 1/8.

Differences in the two cars is mainly the weight and gearing. Same motor/trans in both cars. The coupe has a full cage in it and basically the same front suspension from the white car. The rear suspension is similar, except for the coil-over conversion and a different type ARB. The white car had 3.73 gears with a 28x10.5 on a 15x8 wheel, the coupe has 4.10 gears with a 28x10.5 on a 15x10 wheel. The first outings with the coupe however were on a 325/50 drag radial

OK, for head comparison sake here are the flow numbers between the Canfields and the AFRs, both flowed on the same flow bench, all be it a couple years apart.

Here are the Canfield numbers that I had posted on the corral in early 07:

.200 .300 .400 .500 .600 .700
Intake 133 191 243 276 288 300
Exhaust 102 152 185 206 216 221

And the AFR numbers again:
intake 147 205 257 287 299 312
exhaust 110 163 211 225 229 230

OK, on with the pics:

Intake runners, Alex did a little gasket match to the sides of the runners to match the 1262R.

Exhaust port close up, Alex put in some alluminum all thread into the inner bolt holes and then opened up the exhaust ports quite a bit. I'd like to see how close they are to the exhaust ports on Brent's Vic Sr heads. Probably not as big, but they look pretty darn big to me:

I know Brent had posted a pic of his Victor head with a quarter for size comparison, so I did here as well:

Alex had some custom headers made for his car and had an extra set of flanges made just in case he ever decided to go turbo later. I had Ashley repair my supercomps and weld those flanges on. The flanges match the head port perfectly.

Setting the Probe Shaft Mount rocker system. Of course I get to redo them all now. I had to order some shims to bring them up a little and gain proper geometry. Hopefully 1 of the 3 sets of different length pushrods I have will work. I have 8.60, 8.35, and 8.25 LOL.

Motor back in the car and headers bolted up. I still have to finish bolting everything up, but should have it fired up this week. The headers bolted up much easier with the new flanges, those diaganol (SP) bolts and adapter flanges were a PITA!

Looks good but remember that size does not equal flow. Here is the pic you are talking about:

What is up with the carb flange on the intake?

That carb flange was like that when I got it. I'm pretty certain that they did that before the intake was ported. I think they raised the roof up as it comes up to the flange area.

There is also epoxy on the 4 middle runners down near the heads where the ports were raised.

Just fired her up!!!

Got a lot of little things to button up, put the mufflers on, etc...

Since I modified the hooker supercomps, I now have a spark plug clearance problem. I couldn't get to the spark plugs with a standard socket to tighten them on the passenger side. I ended up taking a cheap-o stanley spark plug socket and grinding the plug end down about 1/2" so that I could clear the header tube and get it on. Then used a 3/4" wrench on the end of the socket to tighten them down.

All that said, now the plug boot is up against the header tube, so I'm going to go buy some of those heat socks for the plug boots.
