My car has had a horrible vibration for a couple of weeks now. It happens mostly when i start off in first gear until i get the car runnin at good speed. If i downshift or leave it at over 2,000 RPMs it vibrates like hell. Sometimes i cant even shift b/c of the vibration. The tranny mount looks fine. I just installed a new aluminum driveshaft with new u joints. The harmonic balancer(stock) is a little over a year old andlooks fine. It just feels like crap. Vibration feels like it coming from either the tranny or rearend. Sometimes i hear the driveshaft rub the undercarriage. Tranny fluid looks a little dirty but im not sure if that has anything to do with it. Illchange that tomorrow along with the oil. Thanks for any help.

i looked at the bushings on the upper/lower control arms and they look fine...the u pper ones dont look perfect but they shouldnt be causing it. The vibration also has a whine which could either be from the input shaft or the TOB.... stepdad said it may be coming from the input shaft or clutch...he thinks its coming from the tranny but we dont know where. Bushings all look fine though. The driveshaft is tight as well.

prob was happening before the new aluminum driveshaft..... the driveahft is eliminated from the prob as i see it...i thought it would fix but it didnt. It almost sounds like a bad pressure plate. The car is 5 spd.

It is a 5 spd and my step dad and I are thinking its either one of the clutch components or tranny. We should be pulling the tranny soon to see if we can find the prob. I just hope its something cheap to fix compared to a new tranny. If it is the tranny once again im going with a Tremec this time. This is my third T5 and i dont even drive the car hard. i just have bad luck with them. The first one needed new syncros when i bought it. second one sprung a leak and burnt up. Now im havin probs with this one. Geez....

Well, vibrations are tough to diagnose in person, much less over the net, but here's a couple things to be on the lookout for:

Anything in your accessory system can introduce a vibe into the motor. If your fan clutch bolts have loosened up, it will wobble and destroy the front bearing on the water pump... And will make a hell of a vibration.

Balancer: Make sure you check it with the motor at idle as well as with it revved up. Also check your ignition timing. If it looks like it's at some ridiculous number..the balancer may have spun.

If you have a problem with the pressure plate, watch your shift fork with the car running. If it is rattling around a bunch, your pressure plate (or one of the bolts that hold the PP to the flywheel is toast.

Any fluids leaking?

From your description, it sounds like the vibe is rpm-related, not mph-related..true?

Good Luck

there are no fuids leaking and yes it seems to be RPM effected. The MPH desnt seem to have anythng to do with the prob. I think its the clutch or pressre plate. When i downshift it whines eal bad and sounds as if there s a rattle. This also happens when i acelerate in first to second. The car can be running and wen i hold in the clutch i stil hear the whining/rattling. Im no sure but sould hopefully know soon. any ore suggestions will be great. Te fa clutchis fine as well. I havent checked th timing but i dont think there is a prob there. Im thinking its either a part in the clutch or flywheel. the balancer was also fine when running and revving.

My recomendation is replace the throwout bearing and put a steal retainer on the inputshaft thsat is from what I have read maybe something else but that is my first best guess.

Well today i was driving down 45(at about 70) and all of the sudden the car started grinding real bad and popped out of gear. every time i put it in gear and let off of the clutch it would make the same grinding noise. It wasnt a regular grind though. It was a real fast grind. I could still drive the car but had to keep it at the lowest RPM possible. I pulled over and got it towed. It can still go into gear most of the time but wont go anywhere over 1500 RPMs. It hasto be lower than that. At idle i hear a high pitched whining sound(TOB) but also hear the clutch spinning. It sounds kinda bad. the whine isnt too loud but the spinning of the clutch sunds real bad. Wha the hell should i do? im on a low low budget....should i just install a new king cobra clutch and pressure plate? Should i also install a new TOB? Should i just put the tranny back in after or open it up and look through it? I dont know shite about transmissions. My step ad thinks it may be the input shaft as well. Imnot sure about that. Chis Neighbors, do you have any time for it this weekend? I need it up and running soon. If i had you do nything it would just be the clutch and TOB install most likely unless the tranny is screwed. If so i could get the car towed over there. If not it will be towed to my step dads work. Im not sure if you are worin on cars anymore. Oh well thanks for any help.
