I'm reassembling a shed that was given to us. The front and back walls are framed and are freaking heavy. They are laying in my garage at the moment and I need some help walking them to the backyard and holding them in place while I screw them down to the base.

These things are heavy so I'll need like 4 people to help. Anyone around this side of town today with some free time? I would have posted up earlier this week asking for help but I didn't know if I'd be starting the assembly today for sure or not. If I get the number of people I need, it'll take us maybe 20 min total to move both walls and get them screwed in place. After that, I can handle the rest of the stuff. Plus, I have to start cleaning up at 3:45-4 b/c I have to be somewhere by 5.

If you can help, please PM me and I'll give you my address and cell number. Btw, name is Fred if we've never met before.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help.

Well, the neighbors came over and helped me get the walls up. I could use some help tomorrow though if anyone has some time. The end roof joists are pretty heavy and will be tough to get in place on my own. I might even need a taller ladder since all I have is a six footer.

Sorry I missed your call Shane. I was outside trying to get as much done as I could before I had to leave. I'm posting this from my blackberry.

Just reply here and I'll check back later when I can.
Thanks.

I'm getting tires and alignment done from 9 to probably 11am or so. I could swing by after that or maybe later on. LMK!

Well, I got most of it complete (as complete as I could).

What I have left is:

Reinstall trim
Purchase 4'x8' sheet of siding, cut, install.
paint to match house
install windows and trim
install door and trim
install roof decking (need taller ladder to do this)
tar and shingle roof

I have a tournament this coming weekend so if I get to work on it at all, it will be on Sunday. Otherwise, I'll work on it after work during the following week and on the weekend of my bday (May 10th).

D, you said you've roofed before. Think you'll be able to come over and help me out?

This thing is HUGE! The eaves are higher than the eaves on our freakin house! IMO, it's too large but it was free so what the heck? Aside from the siding, I put it back together with screws so I can take it down if/when the need arises.

LOL! I have this mental image of little house, HUGE shed... :)

Unfortunately, this coming weekend is no good for me as I've got the boys all weekend. Other than that, I should be free.. Do you have any roofing material left over from the old build or will we be starting from scratch. If so, get me the overall surface area of the roof and we can do some pre-planning as far as how many rolls of tar paper and how many packs of shingles we'll need.

I only have a 6' ladder also, so I'm no help there.

Where's the pics??

The PC term for a shed like this is "Man Cave" :lol . Get the 50+ in LCD and enjoy.

I have the wood roof decking. Don't have any tar paper or shingles though. The dimensions of the base are 12x14. The roof covers this entire base even though the actual enclosed area of the shed is smaller. See pics.

We need to determine how we "match" the shingle color since we can't really tear off a shingle from the house to color match it at the store, lol.

I have a couple of longer extension ladders, like 12' and 20'+ ones if you want to borrow one. As for matching, it doesn't have to match exactly, you can probably get it pretty close by eyeballing it. Most of the colors are pretty standard across brands and such. Or if you want to take a piece, sometimes the center piece on the main ridge is just tarred down and can be carefully cut off and later reinstalled with tar in a calk tube. As for supplies, each "square" of shingles is 100 sq ft, and is usually 3 or 4 bundles per square, depending on if it is flat shingles (3 bundles) or the multiple layer textured ones. Being an engineer, I'm sure you can figure out the sqft of the sloping roof surface. :D I had a LOT of tar paper nails, and may still have a big box of roofing nails. I'll look and let you know. No sense buying some if I can supply them. Plus it will get them out of my garage!

Good idea on screwing it together. I built a storage shed at our townhouse we had like 20 years ago the same way. While it cost a bit more in materials, since I made each side totally separate, it was easy to take down and move two more times.

Thanks for the reply Thomas. I'll take you up on the offer of the nails and the ladder when I get back to working on it. I wish I could work on it this week b/c I don't like the fact that it's sitting unfinished and providing the neighbors with more 'gripe' ammo. I've already given them enough with this huge "house" in our backyard.

:)

Found my big box of roofing and tar paper nails. They are mixed, so I'll sort them out later this week to make sure you have enough.

rock on, thanks. I'll be out of town from Fri through Sun. I'll PM my address to you in case you're out and about, you can just leave them on the porch. If not, I'll come by your place sometime next week and grab them.

I went through my stuff, only found a little less than a small box full of roofing nails, but I have enough tar paper nails to complete a 3,000 sq ft house!
